In 2006 the staff of the Kirkpatrick Family Fund began looking at the issue of teen pregnancy in Oklahoma County at the request of board president Christian Keesee. This was on the heels of reports, both national and local, that teen pregnancy was beginning to increase following a ten year decline.
The goal - reduce teen pregnancy in Oklahoma County.
At that time a scan of the Oklahoma City community confirmed there was no single organization with the mission to specifically address the issue of teen pregnancy. There were however, a handful of organizations providing a range of services for sexually active teens. Contraception and clinic services were available but there was no marketing to create awareness and limited education outreach to direct this population to these services. This was the starting point for the Kirkpatrick Family Fund. The goal - reduce teen pregnancy in Oklahoma County.
